New to Running?

Questions new runners have asked or at least want to-

1. "I got some cold weather tights. Do I wear underwear with them?"
Yes. There are sports/wicking dainties available, some even have wind protection patches. Or your usual underwear is fine.

2.  "When I run... I find myself needing to go. What's up with this?"
Science is conflicted on an exact answer. But when the GI gets jostled and/or squeezed by say, a water belt. "It" can happen. Carry a bit of tp for long trail runs.

3.  "Do I stretch before I run?"
I do not, some swear by it. I try to always start slowly and allow my muscles to warm up. Active stretching is considered a good way to get going. I always stretch after runs. No run is complete until the stretching is done.

4.  "Should I run barefoot?"
No. Well, not much at least. Innov8 (shoe company) has a great deal of info on this at their web site. Runners need to ease into minimalist shoes. Running short (1 m or so) around say a soccer field can be of great benefit to all runners as it strengthens muscles not engaged with a big fat shoe on.

5. "My nips and thighs are rubbed raw! What do I use?"
You may not know it until you get in that nice hot shower, then bam, pain all over again! Sportslick and Body Glide are  must haves for long runs and for sensitive skin, short runs. Slap it on and quit whining!
